Default low coolant warning

I found a TSB that shows that my car fall into the build period in which the coolant tank/sensor needs to be upgraded.

On occasion, I get the message that the coolant level is low and don't drive.

Normal engine temp, no apparent leaks.

I want to check the coolant level, but cant find a link that shows how to get to the coolant cap?

The car is CPO, I inquired at trhe dealer who wasn't aware of a TSB - I located and will bring it in with the car and educate him.

Sounds like they have to drop the engine to install the upgraded parts.

Here's the Cayman and Boxster locations. If the coolant tank needs to be replaced, then the engine/transmission does need to be dropped to get to it. Not really a big deal with these cars.

Thanks, when adding coolant, while cold - just add it to get up the brim in the funnel designated "max?"

There's no float of any line?

Very helpful - thanks. I've had my car new for nearly 3 years now and haven't had this happen. At least I know what the problem is if it does go wrong.

What's the mileage on your car?

My car has 6K miles - with the CPO I have 5 years of warranty left.

Anyone who is approaching the end of the warranty should have this done.

The cost of installing the upgrade is @$3,500 if out of warranty.

So if you are getting the "low coolant warning" you should have this addressed.

As an aside - when adding coolant I assume that you add it up to the brim by "max," (the Porsche Imanual is not very good.

Mine had it......warnings etc.
Nothing wrong.
Fixed under warranty, dropped the engine or something like that. No big deal.

As long as it's in the range between min and max, you are good. System will burp any excess. You're supposed to add coolant mixed with water 50/50.

Looking at the TSB it's an issue with the electrical connection to the coolant level sensor. So coolant level can be fine, but you will receive the warning.

If there's a TSB, would this be covered post warranty as a recall item/known defect? My car is 5 years old/35k miles. Never had this problem and car is tracked regularly.

Great question! Any idea if this applies to 981? My 2015 Boxster S just flashed the warning (yellow, not RED), however it is intermittent. I got the warning during a morning cold start and tried again in the afternoon and it did not come back on. Going to fill the reservoir anywyay.
