HARD TOP 993
#3
I think I remember reading in A. Streather's Essential Companion book that a very small number of hardtops were produced for special customers or family members. It might have just been related to the special roadsters produced, not sure. I imagine if one of those hardtops went up for sale, it would make sport seat pricing look like a give-away.

I have seen a few aftermarket applications and Vic is correct, the soft top has to come out. Not a simple operation that can be quickly reversed. Not for the faint of heart at all!

Hi,
I recently bought a Hard Top on eBay for my 1995 Carrera 4 Cab, from someone in Germany. Here are some photos... It seems to be an original Porsche part but I don't know for sure. I'd be interested to hear what you guys think.
I believe that the Exclusive part code for the 993 Hard Top option was "X3C" but haven't found a serial number on it anywhere.
Btw, it really wasn't difficult to remove the soft top - it took me about 40mins.

That does look like one of the factory tops offered for the '85-'89 Carrera which
likely would fit most early and even some later chassis cars.
However they are reasonably rare and only come available once in a blue moon
usually at a considerable premium,at least 25-3500.00,they listed around 8k i believe.
there is hope though, this afternoon i came across a new ad in 911&porsche world
and it displayed a company in france I think knocking off these and making boxster
tops! D.Morris equipment www.d-moris-equipments.com
looks promising people have been attempting to reproduce the factory steel top
in Fibreglass for a while with mixed results.
The underside of the on shown looks slightly unfinished at the rear, maybe the factory
was glass?

Hi Bert,
Yes, was looking closely at the D. Moris after-market products before I stumbled across this one by chance. It's currently being fitted for me by a reputable indie garage, as it needs some side seals. I'll get the car back in a few weeks time, because I'm travelling. In the meantime, here's a few photos which the previous owner gave me. He acquired the Hard Top when he bought his car, along with a damaged Targa roof. Having renovated the Targa roof, he sold the Hard Top...
I guess I was just VERY lucky. My wife decided to offer it to me as a surprise Xmas present, so it's really priceless
The underside photo is a little deceptive, because there's lots of reflection and in fact it's well finished.
The French hardtops you mention seem to be really good - D. Moris has been in business for more than 20 years and the owner is extremely helpful. I would recommend them. Here's a photo too for those who are interested...
Thanks for all your comments.
