Default To All Newer Members of the 993 Board...

To the newer members who have joined our ranks lately... Welcome!

I've noticed a lot of new names and avatars popping up and am very happy the enthusiasm for these great cars is being picked up a with a new breed of owner. Your presence and contributions are welcomed and valued. If I missed your introduction when you posted your new car, I apologize, and extend my warmest welcome to the close, eccentric family we have here.

From my perspective, being a short 2 years, I've seen the makeup of this board change from the hardcore old guard to a newer set of bright eyed, highly motivated Pcar owners, eager to maintain and mod their cars with the utmost care and thought I have seen in any forum that I have participated in. It has pretty much all been done before, but your recent entry into HOLY 993 ownership makes it exciting and new for you.... which, for me, is what owning these cars is all about.

That being said, I would like to add that you realize the great resource you have become a part off. I say this from being the FNG and hope by my suggestions, we can avoid the pitfalls of forum disagreements that have happened in the past/present.

1. Treat the board as the great resource it is. The owners that came before you had a great technical interest in these cars and prided themselves in solving problems with these cars that only the most dedicated and hardcore owners would ever discover, let alone find fixes for. My hat is off to the people that pioneered this board. Thank you for your invaluable contributions that are stored away for us all in the archives. To the new guys, try using the search function if you have a question. You will be amazed how much information is stored for us all to access with that simple button.

edit~ with apologies to Robert Henriksen, hope you don't mind me borrowing a posting tip from your sig... I find it hilarious and appropriate Posting and YOU...

2. Treat each other with respect. By that I mean, think before you press the "submit new thread". Reread what you are about to send and make sure what you are about to send is really what you want to say. Many times, because of the medium, things can easily be misconstrued. I have seen more disagreements start this way.

3. Keep the fights out of the open forum. If you need to settle disagreements, do it privately using PMs. It only ends up being a saloon house brawl after awhile and does not do the board any good for it to continue for all to see and take cheap shots.

4. Use the "ignore" function to avoid having to deal with people you don't care to hear from. Face it, you won't get along with everyone here. Instead of egging them on every time they say something, put them on your ignore list and move on. If only it were that easy in life!

5. Consider becoming a member if you think you would like to support this board. I personally consider Rennlist membership an absolute bargain in Pcar dollars. I bring this up because not all registered members realize you can become a Rennlist member by simply purchasing a membership... or two.

6. Give John D, the founder and administrator, the props he deserves. He most definitely sets the rules around here. Become a good Rennlist community member by supporting his guidelines of how he would like this site run. Without him, we would all be scattered to the winds on different boards without the great camaraderie this board fosters.

7. Last, enjoy the board and your new 993s. This has been the most enjoyable car I have ever owned. Porsche did it right when they designed and built this car. Yeah, it does have it's "quirks", but in all, it is a truly well balanced and competent machine that few others can match. I am overwhelmed with my 993 ownership. That it has been built to such high standards should be the prelude to the tone you should approach this board. Try to help as much as possible and try to participate with accurate information when you can. A forum board is nothing more than the sum total of it's members. I have witnessed this board being something bigger than the sum of it's parts... I have seen the "Rennlist Spirit" and it is alive and well on this board. It is up to us to make sure each and every one of us is the caretaker of that spirit for that , in my eyes, is what makes this board so unique and sets it apart from any other I have been a part of.

Enjoy your time here... it will pass far too soon if ever your 993 ownership ends for you.

Mahalo for taking the time to read this.

Again, welcome and good luck to you all...

hey kelly-

what do you have against a good saloon house brawl?

kelly and i joined up about the same time and his sentiments are echoed here. it won't take long for any newcomers to find just how helpful and generous this community is.

Nothing really.

It's just the expensive collateral damage I fear.

Very well written, Kelly. I think your post sums up the Rennlist Spirit perfectly. This should be a sticky at the top of each forum.

Danny, Jim,

How does New Wave Old Guard sound?

Seriously, thanks for sticking around after the exodus occurred. It's ties with the OG that gives the forum the depth that is has. I have much appreciated your contributions throughout the years.

And this applies to any of the OG guys that still monitor but don't post (I know a lot of you still tune in)... Thanks from me for the time and effort you all took to build the board to what it is. It has been an invaluable resource for me for maintaining (and modding ) my car from the Hawaiian equivalent of Hootersville. Mahalo to all you OG guys. (OG by my standard of when I joined the board)
