Refresh951's Hybrid Ultra Stroker Build
I have been driving my 2.85L Hybrid Stoker now for a couple months (about 1200 miles). This motor is based on Blown944's design and I have been very happy with the results. Once again I must thank Sid for his help throughout the process. I believe there are a number of builds in the works based on his design. Dave Lindsey even told me they are working on an offset grind motor. I learned a great deal during my build and I have been thinking about what the motor could do with a few modifications.
Saturday night I took the 951 out for a VERY spirited final run before putting it away for the winter . Really no reason to change anything, the car is very quick with 410 whp and a very solid power band but I keep thinking about what it could do, so here we go...
I have purchased all parts to build a 3.15L (except the turbo) and started pulling my motor tonight. I will essential re-use much of my 2.85L including the block, change the pistons, change the crank, and change the turbo. This will also allow me to tear down the 2.85L and inspect for any design issues. I plan to have everything done by March 1st.
I have some new goals for the build:
- 550 rwhp/500+ ftlbs torque at 6300rpm, E85, 20-22psi
- 1 bar at 3200rpm bottom end performance
- Total cost for changes under $3260 for everything including new turbo
- Using 86 Block, dry sleeved, bored to just over 102mm, half filled (re-used)
- JE Small Block Chevy Pistons, Forged 4032
- Eagle 150mm Mitsubishi Rods (re-used)
- 3L crank, offset grind, 95mm stroke, cross drilled
- Compression Ratio is 8.3:1
- ARP Head Studs (re-used)
- Cometic Head Gasket (re-used)
- ACL Race Rod Bearings (Coated)
- OEM Main Bearings (re-used)
- Crank Scrapper (re-used)
- Modified Stock Intake, Ported, Honed (re-used)
- BMW Throttle Body
- Stock Cam, Stock Headers, Stock Intercooler
- High Flow Ported 8 Valve Head, 47mm intake valves (re-used)
- GT3582R Turbo (1.06 A/R, T3), this still may change
- Non-Interference Design
- Self Fabricated 3" Exhaust, 3" Down Pipe, V-Band
- MoCal Oil Cooler (re-used)
- s2 Harmonic Balancer
- Rogue Modified M Tune

1.06 will be to big for the spool characteristics IMO. make a custom twin scroll X-over if you want to get the most out if the turbo with a twin scroll housing.

I know it will be difficult, still working on that part of the build. Looks like you can get 1.06 A/R in a T3 turbine housing. Still researching options.

Going full out on the stroke eh? Measure twice on the cradle etc. iirc it's possible.
I'd just get a new cometic. Why risk that?
Gonna make some f'n torque!!!
Can't wait.

Kind of needed the stroke the way things worked out. I really plan on taking my time on this. Good point about the MLS, for $100 I am sure it is wise to go ahead and replace it.

S2 crank arrived today. Everything looked great. I cannot believe I got this crank with an S2 harmonic balancer delivered for $492. Tomorrow it is going to the machine shop for offset grind.
