Porsche 992 911 GT3 RS

Listening to the Porsche 992 911 GT3 RS do its thing in a straight line is a truly surreal experience worth reliving over and over.

We’ve known for a fairly long time that the Porsche 992 911 GT3 RS would be joining the latest 911 lineup, way before prototypes began appearing on roadways, because this is what the German sports car maker does – it creates a regular old GT3, and then the mighty, more hardcore RS variant. However, nothing could have prepared us for the awesomeness that the production car brings to the table, whether that be through suspension and aero wizardry, or the car’s sweet-sounding, high-revving powerplant. Now, all of that is on vibrant display in this short video from Motorsport Magazine.

Personally, we can’t get enough of the way the Porsche 992 911 GT3 RS sounds, and this video is a treat for the senses in that regard. With launch control engaged, we get to hear its naturally-aspirated 4.0-liter flat-six sing its song all the way to the 9,000 rpm redline, ripping through the gears via its quick-shifting PDK dual-clutch transmission all the way up to 263 kilometers per hour, or just a touch over 163 miles per hour.

Churning out 518 horsepower and 346 pound-feet of torque, the latest GT3 RS is undoubtedly quick – with 0-60 taking just around three seconds flat, according to Porsche, though we know that’s a conservative figure. Regardless, this car is more about carving up race tracks in rapid fashion than mere straight-line acceleration, touting a Nurburgring time of less than seven minutes and making absolute mincemeat of its regular, non-RS brethren.

We don’t get any calibrated data in this video, but it takes roughly 20 seconds for the car to reach its lofty speed, showing off its straight-line prowess in spite of that ginormous rear wing and other aero bits and pieces working to create massive amounts of downforce to keep it glued to the ground – singing its might song the whole way through the rev range and within each gear shift. Truthfully, we don’t think we’ll ever get tired of listening to that, as this is one machine that will go down as one of the all-time greats.
