This red 2005 Carrera GT has 3,300 miles on the odometer, includes the full set of fitted luggage and will be sold at Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale.

The Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale auction will be held January 21-29. As usual there will be hundreds of fantastic vehicles going across the block. However, lot # 1405 will be especially exciting for Rennlist fans. That lot is for a 2005 Carrera GT with about 3,300 miles, the complete luggage set and of course that glorious V10 engine. And while at first glance you may think this Carrera GT is painted in standard Guards Red you would be mistaken. The owner wanted a color change and took it to Karosserie in Wayne, PA. There is received a fresh coat of a custom PPG Red hue that covers the body as well as the brake calipers. It looks fantastic. And it will be selling at no reserve.

The year was 2004 and I went to my local Porsche dealer to see the black Carrera GT they had just gotten in. The car offered here was originally black so maybe it was this very car. I got to hear the amazing V10 rev that day for the first time. The window sticker showed a price of $440,000. I drooled over the shape and sound and price of this car. I thought it was one of the greatest cars in the world. And I still have the pictures I took that day. Nearly twenty years later I still think it is one of the greatest cars in the world. In subsequent years there have been faster Porsches produced. But this car, with this shape, engine, transmission, and sound will never be topped in my opinion.

The Porsche 959 was groundbreaking, the 1973 911 RS is raw and incredible, the 918 Spyder is technological marvel, but the Carrera GT is right up there with them. And cars like this will never be made again.

With only about 644 copies ever sold in the United States there is no such thing as a common Carrera GT. But this example sets itself apart with more than just the custom paint. When the paint was changed all single-use rubber body seals were replaced. A new windshield was also installed. The factory-original hydraulic rear spoiler actuators were replaced with a specially engineered electrical system. However, the original system is included in the sale. The full factory luggage set was never used and is also included in the sale. This car is ready to be driven and enjoyed.

Carrera GT Value

Being offered at no reserve means this car is going to sell. But don’t register to bid thinking that you will be able to buy this for pennies on the dollar. This car will bring all the money. The market is strange right now. Values have been getting softer even for cars like this. A year ago, this car may have brought close to $2 million. My guess is that this ends up with a hammer price right around $1.3 million. Of course, you never know what can happen at a live auction. What I do know is that if the Mega Millions numbers fall my way, I will be buying this car when it crosses the block.
