Twin-Turbo Porsche 911 GT3 Churns Out 1,000 Wheel Horsepower
Built to tackle Pikes Peak, this wicked Porsche 991 911 GT3 has been upgraded in every conceivable way.
The Porsche 911 GT3 has long been a favorite of enthusiasts for its masterful balance of high-revving, naturally-aspirated power, coupled with a manual transmission (even though a PDK is available), rear-wheel-drive, and a pure driving experience. That tradition continued in a big way with the Porsche 991 911 GT3, which was a fantastic machine by any measure, as well as a very capable one. However, when Joey Seely at E-Motion Engineering set out to build the ultimate Pikes Peak racer, he needed something a bit more, and that’s precisely what he has built here.
Seely started out with a 2016 Porsche 991 911 GT3 that was previously used in endurance racing, and as such, had already been treated to even more weight-cutting measures. However, the stock 4.0-liter flat-six simply wasn’t going to cut it if he wanted to run with the big dogs at Pikes Peak, so Seely set out to infuse his Porsche with some serious power. He got that in the form of a Mezger 997 GT3 flat-six built by the folks at EVO-SPEC in Phoenix, Arizona.
The now twin-turbocharged 3.8-liter mill features a laundry list of upgrades including Carillo forged rods, CP forged pistons, a Silly Rabbit Motorsport billet intake, Reid Washbon Racing headers, and the cherry on top – a pair of Garrett G35-1050 turbochargers. Running on VP Racing X85 ethanol and 19 pounds of boost, the fortified powerplant churned out an extremely impressive 1,000 horsepower at the wheels on the dyno – more than enough to conquer mountains.
That power flows to the rear wheels via a rebuilt 991.1 GT3 R Recardo six-speed transaxle equipped with a 991.1 GT3 Cup bellhousing for strength. As one might imagine, this 911 also needs to be able to handle scary corners at high elevation at high speeds, so Steely also set out to upgrade the suspension and brakes with KW Compeition three-way adjustable shocks, E-Motion control arms, and Alcon Racing brakes with 380mm rotors and six-piston calipers up front , with four-piston calipers out back.
A truly impressive machine by every measure, this Porsche 991 911 GT3 improves upon a proven formula in a big way, as this wicked machine sounds and goes like few other vehicles out on the road – or flying up the side of one of America’s tallest mountain peaks.
