Ken Block's Latest Pikes Peak Monster: The Hoonipigasus

This classic 911 has insane looks, 1,400 HP, and AWD. This year it plans to take the top class at the 100th running of the Pikes Peak Hill Climb.

Conventional is not a word often used in reference to motorsport legend and driver extraordinaire, Ken Block. This time around, he has revealed his latest Porsche-based project via Instagram dubbed “The Hoonipigasus”.

This 912-bodied 911 has come a very long way from its humble 1960 design. It was built in collaboration with Porsche experts, BBi Autosport, and Mobil 1, known as the Porsche 911 SVSR.

As you may imagine with a racecar as eccentric as this one, only one of these beasts has been built. Considering the decade-long development process involved, it is likely that this will be the only one.

So what exactly is powering this thing, what is it about, and what is its purpose? Well, according to Block, it is “intended to the be world’s ultimate Porsche race car build with the sole purpose of trying to win the top class in the 100th running of the legendary PPIHC race.

The Ultimate Porsche Race Car?

In order to claim the title of the definitive Porsche race car, we say that this new project will have a lot to prove. Without a doubt, winning the open class of the upcoming hill climb will solidify its legacy. So what tools does The Hoonipigasus have at its disposal?

Powered by a 1,400 HP 4.0L twin-turbo flat-six running pure methanol fuel, you can best believe it has power on tap. It is unlikely that the full output will be used throughout the entirety of the race, but its obvious power potential is high.

Another notable feature is the AWD system with GPS-active height-adjustable suspension providing all-around traction for this mid-engine monster. This drivetrain configuration is a necessity to compete in the unlimited class at Pikes Peak.

Shifting will be handled by a one-off Sadev sequential transmission with power being put down by full race slicks combined with Rotiform TSF forged wheels.

Aero Only Seen on the Mountain

Obviously, the looks of The Hoonipigasus stand out much more than any impressive performance figure. The design was created in collaboration with street artist Trouble Andrew, aka Gucci Ghost.

In its color and design, homage is paid to the iconic 1971 Porsche 917/20 “Pink Pig” livery now seen on several timeless Porsche race cars.

In typical Pikes Peak fashion, the aerodynamic elements on display on this classic 911 are hard to miss. The overall aerodynamic design concept was created by Oilstainlab, with the technical aspects finished by Verus Engineering.

With The Hoonipigasus coming in at only 2,200 pounds we can only imagine that the entire possible body panel is carbon fiber. As an idea, this project is truly stunning, but will it be capable of being the fastest Porsche ever?

A lot to Prove Before June 26th

According to Block, the car will see its first official testing next week, in preparation for the Pikes Peak Hill International Hill Climb scheduled for June 26th.

On paper, The Hoonipigasus certainly does look like one of the most extreme and capable Porsche builds ever, however, how will theory translate the practice?

Regardless, we are happy and excited to see an old-new version of the Pink Pig hit the race track once again. We are banking that given the Porsche heritage, the Hoonigan team has a chance to take the top spot.
