964 Turbo cars are already rare and desirable, but this 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S 3.6 is a bit more special than most.

As it stands, the Porsche 911 is already an iconic vehicle by any measure, though some examples of this fantastic rear-engine sports car are obviously more desirable than others. The 964 generation has quickly become one of the most popular of the bunch, thanks to its iconic styling, not to mention the fact that it’s air-cooled. Within the realm of the 964, this 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S 3.6 that recently popped up for sale at Bring a Trailer is one of the rarer and more special examples ever produced, as it’s one of just 17 “Package” examples built with standard Turbo bodywork.

Like all 17 of those cars, this 1994 Porsche 911 Turbo S 3.6 was originally sold in North America – in this case, Houston – where it remained until 2021. With just 41k miles showing on the odometer, the car remains in fantastic condition with loads of factory options including the X99 asymmetrical side air intakes, the X92 Turbo S front lip spoiler, and the X93 Turbo S rear spoiler. Its shiny black paint is perfectly complimented by a set of 18-inch Speedline Cup wheels, which are wrapped with more modern 225/40 front and 265/35 rear Michelin Pilot Sport tires.

Inside the cabin, this particular 964 911 features black leather complemented by red accents covering the dashboard, seat piping, and floor mat embroidery, along with plenty of amenities including power seats, a leather-wrapped steering wheel, air conditioning, power windows, and a Porsche Classic stereo with navigation. Underneath, the shocks, springs, and shock mounts have all been recently replaced, and are complemented by disc brakes with cross-drilled rotors at all four corners.

Power for this rare 911 comes from the turbocharged 3.6-liter M64/50 flat-six fitted with the X88 power kit from the factory, which added modified cylinder heads and cams, altered timing, larger-capacity fuel injectors, and a larger turbocharger and intercooler, resulting in an output of 380 horsepower and 384 pound-feet of torque, which flows to the wheels via a five-speed manual transmission and limited-slip differential.

The 3.6-liter powered 964 911 of the 1993 and 1994 model years featured a production run of 1,400 units, after which Porsche sent the last 93 cars to its Exclusive Department, which added the S package. From there, bodywork diverged, with 76 cars getting the Flachbau treatment and the other 17 received standard Turbo headlights and bodywork. As one of that scant few and perhaps the nicest of the bunch, this particular 911 Turbo is certainly something special, and its $800k hammer price is concrete proof of that.
