Porsche 911 has crafted quite a legacy over the past five decades.

There’s probably no name more iconic when it comes to coveted sports cars than the Porsche 911. Sure, there have been many nameplates that have been around as long as the vehicle that bears the legendary German crest. But none have come close to capturing the appeal of the 911 over the seven generations of the sports car, as showcased in the simple but powerful video from Porsche featured above.

Since first taking form in 1964, the Porsche 911 has become the best-selling sports car in the world, recently celebrating the production of its one-millionth model draped in the special-edition “Irish Green” color.

Still, considering the influence that the 911 has had on practically every vehicle that has worn a Porsche badge over the past five decades, you never grow old paying homage to the iconic German sports car. The 911 is, after all, one of the most respected all-around performance badges in the world. In fact, check any credible “most-popular” sports car list, and you’re bound to find the 911 hovering somewhere at the top. Again, we said “credible.” Five of your friends weighing in on at a bar while hammering down your third round of drinks, doesn’t actually qualify as a reliable survey.
