Service For a 918 Is Exactly as Daunting as You’d Imagine

Tolerances are so precise, that you could almost imagine a mechanic wearing scrubs while performing a regular service.

There’s only a select number of folks in the country who can be trusted by Porsche to service a 918. Why? Well look at the picture above and you’ll see. Obviously, with the car that is taken to put this million dollar machine together, even more care is taken when it needs a scheduled service. Though this might be a bit more than an oil change judging by the looks of it.

It’s not quite an engine-out service, but with almost all of the body work and underlying components removed from the vehicle, you know what ever needed to be reached is deep within the bowls of that 918. Items like exhaust components are carefully placed on towels on a rack nearby so as not to blemish them, and masking tape is used extensively to cover the $30,000 Weissach paint and livery.

Now, we’re not sure what’s being wrenched on in this picture but “disassemble the back half” tells us it’s something fairly pricey. Is it a transmission or hybrid component? We’re not too sure, but it’s fair to say this service is going to have a lot of book time.

Charges on this bill would be eye-watering for even 911 owners, but for a 918 owner, it simply comes with the territory.
