Rennlist‘s Five Coolest Finds at the 2019 Spring Carlisle

1972 Porsche 914 Targa

From Seventies’ mid-engine classics to future icons, the 2019 Spring Carlisle has quite a few Porsches for every taste.

Where’s the best place one can find a new Porsche to add to their collection (aside from the Rennlist Marketplace, of course)? Auctions, of course, especially the big ones like those held by Barrett-Jackson, RM Sotheby’s, and Mecum Auctions. There are plenty of Porsches to roll down the red carpet at each gathering, along with the energy only a live auction can provide.

If you happen to be in or heading to Carlisle, Pennsylvania April 24 through 28, there’s a special two-day auction waiting for you during the Spring Carlisle, one held by Carlisle Auctions. Out of the 500-plus cars set for the auction block, here are the coolest Porsche and Porsche-adjacent ones we found.

1972 Porsche 914 Targa

Take the above 1972 Porsche 914, for example. The 1.7-liter flat-four only has 32,000 miles on it, and its black interior looks excellent for its age. The only real mod is an updated stereo system, but the sound of the flat-four may be all its next owner needs to hear.

1980 Porsche 911 SC

Nope, this isn’t the famed RUF Yellow Bird, but this 1980 911 SC looks the part with the set of RUF wheels on all corners, the big whale tail, and the yellow paint. The 3.0-liter flat-six now has turbo power, providing the air-cooled beauty with more than the 180 horses it made back in its day, all funnelled to the rear through a five-speed manual.

1999 Porsche 911

1999 Porsche 996 911

Want something closer to the 2020s than the dying days of disco? This silver 996 from the Y2K era could do the trick. The 3.6-liter flat-six was the first of its kind, keeping cool with plenty of water. It also has a valet key to protect the 911 from joyriders looking for an easy time with a Porsche.

2002 Porsche Boxster

2002 Porsche Boxster

On the other side of the new millennium hysteria is this 2002 Boxster, sporting the same headlamps as the above 996 (the 996 would get a revised set the year this Boxster was originally made and sold). The black top is in great condition, as is the interior, and the whole thing only racked up 37,000 miles in the past couple of decades.

1966 Volkswagen 21-Window Deluxe Bus

1966 Volkswagen 21-Window Deluxe Bus

Since there were only four Porsche entries in total up for bid at the Spring Carlisle, we looked around to find other goodies from the family, coming up with this 1996 Volkswagen Type 2 with 21 windows to welcome the sunshine in. The reupholstered seating makes for a cozy place to be, and the soft-cloth sunroof is ready to frame the stars above on a clear night at the campsite.
