Porsche Using Augmented Reality to Diagnose Problems

Tech Look Live connects Porsche technicians with Atlanta-based experts to diagnose and fix complicated issues quickly.

As we all know, cars have gotten infinitely more technical in recent years. Computers have taken over virtually every function, from adjusting aero to steering the rear wheels to listening to your voice commands. In many ways, this is a good thing for drivers. These features add convenience, and allow for greater performance than some analog systems. But it also means there are more things that can go wrong. And those problems are often difficult to diagnose, let alone repair.

Porsche is well aware of this. And they’re also aware that customers don’t want to wait around forever while technicians struggle to locate these issues. So naturally, they’re using technology to help diagnose these technology-based problems. In the form of augmented-reality glasses and software, dubbed Tech Look Live, which allows technicians to link up with an Atlanta-based technical support team. These experts are able to see exactly what the techs are seeing, as well as video conference with them to speed up the resolution and repair

Porsche is already piloting the unique system across eight dealerships in the U.S. and Canada. And according to preliminary results, service resolution time has decreased by 40 percent. Aside from real-time video capability, the support team is also able to take screenshots and send technical bulletins and instructions straight to the glasses while the technician is working on the vehicle.

‘Tech Live Look allows us to be more efficient and helps get vehicles back in the hands of our customers faster, all while still delivering exceptional service quality.’

“Our main goal is to provide a better overall experience for our customers. Tech Live Look allows us to be more efficient and helps get vehicles back in the hands of our customers faster, all while still delivering exceptional service quality” explained Klaus Zellmer, President and CEO of PCNA.

Sounds like a win-win to us. Look for Porsche’s Tech Look Live to officially launch at all North American dealerships in 2018.
