Default 992 - replacement hood emblem

I purchased a heritage edition hood emblem for my new 992 from Suncoast - SKU PKCLASSICCREST. On the box is what I think is the Porsche part number - 90155921027.

I was surprised to find that the posts on the emblem are are not threaded; they are smooth.

The nuts each fit an 8mm socket, and are covered in putty.

I wanted to ask around and see if this is expected before I remove the old emblem. In the few youtube videos I could find, the posts were threaded (maybe not 992 though). I just don't see how this is going to be securely affixed.

Self tapping nuts here and same for the license plate screws ... just rubs me the wrong way. These things should be machined.

Thanks for the info, I appreciate it.

I know, but it is a production car and not handmade like an Aston Martin. Porsches are loaded with Toyota-quality qwik-fasteners throughout the vehicle. They cost way too much for what they give you in components yet we keep buying them because of the driving experience!

It makes no sense for this expensive of a car.Totally agree with the ****ty self tapping license plate screws. Bmw plate bracket is so simple and quality. Also if the emblem is removed several times, the nuts may not un thread and just spin. Really poor design.

Can confirm that is (unfortunately) how it is supposed to be - self threading nuts as others have mentioned . I changed my hood ornament to an aftermarket one.

Perhaps you could simply thread the posts and then fasten it with flange nuts?

Be careful when futzing with the nuts, they can easily drop into the hood interior. Use a small magnet to keep them in the socket.

And if they do drop into the hood.... they may rattle forever.

Take a little sealing putty from the old nut and jam it in the bottom of your 8mm nut driver. Works perfect for keeping them secure during install. I’m so **** about everything cars, I made sure the emblem was perfectly removed and reinstalled for ppf🤪

BMW has modified their license plate bracket. It is total garbage now as it also uses self tapping screws.
