Porsche Taycan Makes U.S. Premiere at L.A. Auto Show
Porsche electrified with the Taycan 4S and the Turbo S variant.
Porsche shook things up at L.A. Auto Week. The Taycan finally made its U.S. premiere. We were on the scene to capture all the action.
If the Taycan represents the future, we’re pretty impressed. These cars may be electric, but they still carry true Porsche DNA. While many are still flat-six loyalists, seeing the all-electric Taycan 4S and Taycan Turbo S might change some minds.
Seen in a striking blue, Taycan 4S comes with two battery size options. The Performance Battery produces 522 hp from a 79.2-kilowatt-hour battery. While the Performance Battery Plus delivers up the same two-layer, 93.4-kWh battery used in the Taycan Turbo and Turbo S, delivering 563 hp.
4S is the base model, serving as the entry level car. It is the cheapest of the Taycans, with a price tag of about $103,800.
Power is kicking in the 4S, sprinting from 0 to 60 mph in just 3.8 seconds, with top speed of 155 mph.
“A year ago we introduced the new generation of the 911 in Los Angeles,” says Oliver Blume, Chairman of the Executive Board of Porsche AG. “Now we follow up with the Taycan – the first all electric sports car from Porsche. California has been like a second home for Porsche for many decades. It’s where the world’s biggest 911 fan base is. With the Taycan we connect our past to the future and we will continue the Porsche success story.”
With motors on the front and rear axles to facilitate all-wheel drive, as well as a two-speed transmission on the rear axle, the drive architecture of the 4S comprises the same main technical highlights as its siblings.
Inside there is a lot of user friendly tech, and a modern sporty design.
2020 Taycan Turbo S
The Turbo S is especially sleek in white. Specs are very impressive on the Turbo S. It makes 616 hp, hits 0-60 in 2.6 seconds, and features a top speed of 162 mph.
Styling is very Porsche, and you can’t help but be blown away. It looks so good. Of course, for a little over $150,000, expectations are high.
But given what we’ve seen of the Turbo S in action, we know this is a speedy sporty beast. Now we know it is also a looker.
We will be at the L.A. Auto Show (running until Dec. 1) all week, so check back in!
