Porsche on Porsche Crime at World Endurance Championship

At the 6 Hours of Silverstone FIA World Endurance Championship event this past weekend, some serious Porsche on Porsche crime went down.

As you can see in the truly depressing video below, last year’s champ, Brendon Hartley, apparently tried to drive the team’s 919 Porsche Hybrid prototype over the #86 Gulf Racing Porsche 911 RSR driven by Michael Wainwright. Fortunately both drivers walked away unharmed.

Unfortunately, neither Porsche finished the race. And to add more salt to the wound, the prototype 919 had a 40-second lead at the time of the crash.

Though the announcers of the race certainly thought Wainright was holding his line, and that Hartley was at fault, the defending champ didn’t see it that way.

“I wanted to get past a GT car on the outside, which is quite normal through that corner, but the driver didn’t see me and used all the road,” said Hartley. “I don’t want to blame anyone. It was a shocking moment and it is a true shame.”

Of course Wainright was more than a bit surprised to see Hartley on his hood. “I was a passenger, I didn’t even know he was there until he was too late,” he said.

Have a look at the gnarly crash below, and let us know what you think happened.
