So unnecessary. Like Bamber at Daytona a few years ago.

Mistake under NO pressure. Leading by 40 SECONDS and wanted to go around the OUTSIDE of the GT car at the exit of a FAST left hander.

The stewards found Hartley responsible for the incident, citing that the LMP1 cars "must take care" passing slower cars. I'm a big fan of Brandon, but he flat out screwed up.

What was up with three of the 991 RSR having upper control arm failures? It's not like that's a brand new platform and it's not like Silverstone is a very kerb-heavy course.

Uhh, yes it is. Look at the tall red curbing on the other side of the red/white painted gator strips at each apex.

Regardless, three failures.

Sucked, but thanks for checking! :-)

Car, team and co-drivers were awesome. I just needed more laps to get up to speed -- I was severely off the pace. The track is very tricky to get the most out of and with the strange weather we had, there wasn't many laps available to learn it.

Hopefully Imola goes better!

It was a big mistake that could have finished a lot worse. They both got off lightly thank goodness.

I don't know what the stats are but damn these cars looked fast there. Surely they must be F1 fast in some of the turns. So much downforce and grip. Astonishing!

I don't know about the LMP1 car, but our GTE RSR on Dunlops is flat out in 5th gear through that corner where the Porsche P1 and Gulf RSR hit during the WEC race. The GT car doesn't normally need *all* the track on exit, but if they're on old tires or pickup a bit too much understeer in the middle (which is easy when you're flat out in 5th gear!) then they'll drift all the way out... which is why there was contact.

The P1 would have caught the GTE car *so fast* through the previous turn (T1, 5th gear as well.. but GT cars brake, I'd guess the P1 cars take it flat) that the GTE driver probably didn't even know he was there.

WEC LMP1 cars are astoundingly quick - the new F1 in my book - and closing speeds are huge. Go to 45secs on the video and watch the in-car from Hartley's perspective to get a sense of the closing rate.

Bummer he couldn't have breathed off a 1/10 and gone to the inside but I suspect he was also mega committed at that point.

Why were the factory 911s and Vetts at Long Beach and not Silverstone? How does that work with points in the WEC?

Porsche doesn't have an official factory backed effort in the WEC this year. The US team is run by Core and I believe is only planning to run on this side of the pond. Manthey will run the factory back effort with a new car for 2017.

Do you know if the Manthey cars will at least run at Le Mans?
