Porsche Mission E Tackles Nürburgring

Mission E

For the first time, the Mission E is spotted using its active aero bodywork around Germany’s legendary circuit.

For years, the Porsche Mission E remained nothing more than a shiny prototype and a promise. But now, various pre-production prototypes are getting down to business and cementing the car’s production future.

It all started when we spotted several mules tooling around with a group of Teslas recently. And now, the Mission E is undergoing the ultimate test for any performance car: Germany’s legendary Nürburgring.

U.K. car mag Evo spied the Porsche EV lapping the 12.9 mile circuit with camo almost identical to the ones we saw in Germany. The blacked out disguise conceals most of the car’s very Panamera-like lines, but there were a few noticeable differences on the track version. Namely some underbody additions which appear to be foam-like fins designed to improve/record aerodynamics. The new images also show the car’s active rear wing and diffuser in action for the first time.

Despite its electrification agenda, the Mission E’s performance is obviously key to its success. Porsche’s latest has unabashedly placed its crosshairs square in the direction of the Tesla Model S, which is, by the way, the world’s current quickest-accelerating car. But the Mission E isn’t necessarily going after that all-out speed title — at least not yet.

Still, the Mission E won’t exactly be some kind of tree-hugging slow poke. Porsche estimates a 605 hp total output, 3.5-second 0-60 time, and sub eight-minute Nurburgring lap. And of course, manufacturer estimates are always a bit underrated. Plus, this is just the beginning for the Mission E, which will likely consist of multiple models, including a performance range topper. Stay tuned!
