Multiple Rennlisters report a sudden multi-month hold on their Porsche GT3 RS order, with zero explanation why.

For a Porsche fan, there’s no better feeling than receiving an allocation on one of the brand’s latest supercars. Then comes the hard process of spec’ing out your new ride, followed by the inevitable wait for it to arrive. Typically this is a smooth process. But lately, a strange thing has been happening to Rennlisters who’ve ordered a new GT3 RS. According to this thread started by member Kingfrog3, their cars are arriving at port, only to be placed on hold for months!

“My friend’s car (2019 GT3 RS with Weissach package and NO mag wheels) arrived at the port yesterday in Rhode Island. As soon as it arrived it got put on ‘Production Hold’ till April!!!! The dealer doesn’t have any information as to why yet. Anyone else hear of anything?”

As sgroer points out, this isn’t just a one time occurrence, either.

“Uh oh, now there are two of them. I hope we don’t have a problem brewing.”

And then, his own ride gets the same treatment.

“My non WP GT3 RS car was just delayed until 4/5.”

Soon afterward, Corino delivers some bad news.

“I was told yesterday all GT cars not on a carrier (truck) will be held at port till 2019 for sales reasons.”

Sadly, joejenie faces the same issue with his Porsche. But at least he doesn’t have to wait until April.

“My MB WP GT3 RS was delayed yesterday from a 2/1 deliver to 3/8 delivery. It was V300 last week, but now in customization. Original delivery date for me was 12/22. Yes, it is getting frustrating. I asked yesterday if it is delayed until March, can you delay until April and do ED now? Told no.”

Despite this, A/S received his Porsche with no delay.

“My 2019 WP GT3 RS with exposed carbon hood arrived last week, and it is in my garage. No idea which ship brought it here.”

So the only thing left to ask is, why is this happening to certain cars? No one really knows for sure, but there are many theories.

“Rumor is that they’re just holding cars till 2019 to manage sales numbers,” said sgroer.

“Just heard that it is a undisclosed quality control issue. Only 3RS,” said Kingfrog3.

“Maybe this could be related to the paint issue thread that was started a few weeks back?” added RickyGT3.

And then, sgroer seems to get some clarity on the problem.

“Just received a call from someone at PCNA who would know the situation. It is a quality control issue that is significant enough to warrant a port hold. They are working as hard as they can and will have further communications as soon as they know more.”

Whether that issue is paint or engine related or something else entirely remains a mystery. So be sure and head over here to keep up with the latest as this situation unfolds!
