Porsche Exec Hints at Possible Electric 911

Porsche Mission E

Remember when we imagined that the Mission E could someday lead to an electric 911? Well, we weren’t alone.

Porsche has at least considered building a two-door electric sportscar, kind of like the four-door Mission E, and kind of like a 911. Here’s what 911 Turbo line director Erhard Mössle, has to say about it (via a Top Gear article with quite the declarative headline “Porsche Mission E to spawn all-electric 911”):

“The Mission E could lead to a future when we need more electric cars to meet our regulations. So, you can imagine a Mission E with two doors—the car looks great and there could be potential for a sports car. Whether it’s called a 911 or not is another discussion… Maybe, the Mission E is the starting point in this segment and as with our other car lines, you don’t just have one car, there are some variants. We had a 911 E in the past don’t forget!””

Never, Erhard. Back in 1969, how could we? But still, that wasn’t exactly an all-electric.

The electric model we for sure know is coming, the Mission E, is going to be a rocket ship powered by some amazing tech. But don’t take my word, here’s forum member Orphan’s introduction to the “Porsche Goes Electric” thread:

“Porsche gives its Tesla killer the green light: Mission E can be charged simply by driving over a special tile and has a holographic dashboard controlled just by LOOKING at it
Four seater car can go from zero to 100 km/h in under 3.5 seconds
Will still be slightly slower than Tesla’s new ‘ludicrus’ mode
Can travel over 500 km on one charge using conductive system
Will go on sale by the end of the decade.”

Imagine one of those with two wheels. Many folks immediately did just that when the Mission E’s production was announced, including us. Now it appears Porche has been doing some serious musing as well.
