Porsche Configurator Adds Artificial Intelligence to Guess Your Preferred Options
Online Porsche configurator gains a new Recommendation Assistant that apparently knows how you like to spec your car.
While some automakers like Tesla keep things simple during the vehicle build and price process, the online Porsche configurator oftentimes feels like it has endless options to choose from. That’s part of the appeal of the brand, of course, in that buyers have an incredible number of choices and can spec their vehicles to their exact liking. Now, however, the Porsche configurator will give you a little help choosing the right options thanks to its new artificial intelligence assistant tool it calls the Recommendation Assistant.
The tool isn’t terribly intrusive, however, and is simply a small blue lightbulb icon that appears in the bottom right-hand portion of the screen inside the configurator. When you click on it, the recommendation tool suggests which options are the best match for your personal preferences. In our case, that means adding a bevy of goodies to our 911 Turbo S build, including Exclusive Design wheels, the Burmester high-end surround sound system, LED-Matrix design headlights, ventilated seats, and clear taillights.
These suggestions are based on millions of data points, according to Porsche, and the tool uses algorithms to detect patterns and predict which options a user might go for. The automaker says the predictions are 90+ percent accurate in terms of picking the options that a buyer will eventually choose, which, well, may not be the case with our particular build, at least.
Regardless, Porsche’s Recommendation Assistant is currently available on its online configurations in the U.S., Taiwan, Switzerland, China, Germany, and the UK, with plans to expand it to other countries in the coming months. The tool works with every single Porsche model currently available, too, from the 718 twins to the electric Taycan.
Some will obviously question if this tool is simply a way to get buyers to add on additional pricey options that they might not otherwise consider, but at the same time, it’s also extremely unobtrusive and is only used if the shopper takes the time to click on it. It’s certainly an interesting addition to the complex process of building a Porsche online if nothing else, and we imagine that at least a few potential buyers will ultimately find it useful.
