Stock Diesel and Turbo models tow world’s largest passenger aircraft.

Porsche Great Britain technician Richard Payne has proven what we already knew: Porsche is a car that is as incredibly powerful and strong and it is aesthetically stunning and flawlessly designed. And just how did he prove it? Well, he used a stock Porsche Cayenne Diesel and its twin-turbocharged V8 to set a new Guinness World Record for heaviest aircraft pull by a production car. On an airstrip at at France’s Paris Charles de Gaulle Airport, Payne’s Porsche effortlessly towed an Air France Airbus A380 weighing over 300 tons a distance of 137 feet.

Following the Porsche Cayenne Diesel’s record-breaking feat, the stunt was repeated using a Cayenne Turbo S, which also completed the task of effortlessly towing the largest passenger aircraft in the world.

‘Our cars go beyond what you expect. But even so, what the Cayenne did was remarkable.’

The Cayenne Diesel and the Cayenne Turbo S were each connected to the Airbus A380 via a special towing attachment that sat on the Cayenne’s standard tow bar. The Guinness World Record title was set by the Cayenne S Diesel. The exercise was then repeated using a Porsche Cayenne Turbo S.

“We don’t usually go this far to test the limits of our cars,” says Payne, “but I think today we got pretty close. I could tell that it was working hard, but the Cayenne didn’t complain and just got on with it …Our cars can go a bit beyond what our customers might expect – they’re designed to be tough. But even so, what the Cayenne did today was remarkable.

“We drove the car here from London,” continues Payne, “and I plan to drive it home again, having towed an A380 in between. Credit should go to the team in Stuttgart who developed the car.”
