With support from Porsche, Sotheby’s sale price was doubled, with funds raised going to support CV-19 relief effort in America.

Last week, we were excited to tell you all about the awesome auction of the last-ever Porsche 991 generation 911 when it started on April 15, with the sale’s proceeds benefitting the fight against CV-19 pandemic in America. Now, we’re happy to deliver some great follow-up news that the auction broke all kinds of sales records and because this Porsche is so special, it was able to bring in a half-million dollars from the auction! The money will be donated to United Way Worldwide to support its work for CV-19 relief.

And just when you think the news could not get any better, it does. After the 991 wowed the online Sotheby’s auction, which closed on April 22, Porsche Cars North America (PCNA) stepped in and decided to up the ante and make the much-needed support even greater by matching the winning Sotheby’s sale price.

So, in the end, the phenomenal Porsche 991 gen 911 raised $1 million in the fight against the cornonavirus. How cool is that?

‘Porsche’s generosity will make a real difference as we fight COVID-19 and prepare for the recovery phase in the communities that we serve.’

“When we began this project, I wanted to use our voice to help raise awareness and funding for the incredible work of United Way,” says Klaus Zellmer, PCNA’s President, who will be personally presenting the 911 Speedster to the winner at an upcoming special event. “I’m pleased to have helped draw attention to their efforts and I’m deeply appreciative of the generosity and kindness of all the participants and the winning bidder. We can now look forward to the funds raised making a direct difference to those who need it most right now.”

The winner of the car will also receive a number of very cool and unique extras, including an exclusive tour of Porsche’s headquarters in Weissach, Germany, as the guest of Dr. Frank-Steffen Walliser and Andreas Preuninger. And when the 911 owner gets there, he’ll be sporting a bespoke Porsche Design timepiece that features the chassis number of the 911 Speedster etched onto its casing. Also included is a specially created single-edition book charting the construction of the last 991.

“Porsche’s generosity will make a real difference as we fight COVID-19 and prepare for the recovery phase in the communities that we serve,” says Brian Gallagher, President of United Way Worldwide. “United Way is focused on supporting those who need it most right now, and the money raised by this unique sale will go to local healthcare services, food banks, and to providing care and triage for impacted communities. We appreciate the speed and enthusiasm by which Porsche has made all of this possible.”

The Sotheby’s auction took place April 15-22, and the exact price of the final auction lot was $550,000. RM Sotheby’s will reportedly donate a portion of its buyer’s premium to the UW COVID-19 Fund.
