Shut Up and Listen to This Porsche 917K Devour Laguna Seca

The 1969 Porsche 917k from the world-famous Le Mans 24 Hours is a stupidly special Porsche for many reasons. One of them being the Gulf livery, and its relationship with the king of cool — Steve McQueen.

This YouTube video by, RACER, is all about the sound, especially as the helmet-mounted POV camera makes your neck hurt after a few minutes given the thick windshield support brace across the top of it. I constantly found myself looking down at the video, as if my head’s angle would make any difference! Regardless, my ears were too busy having eargasms due to the 4.5 liter flat-12 engine, so I quickly got over the neck pain.

Oh, and one more thing. Check out how much of a handful that bad boy is on entry — very squirmy and lots of fun. Perhaps not too much fun for Bruce Canepa, who’s responsible for bringing this $20 million dollar 917k back in one piece during his track outing at the Monterey Motorsports Reunion.
