Porsche 911 GT3 RS: Jerry Seinfeld Doesn’t Want to Drive Anything Else
The famous comedian and Porsche collector professed his love for the GT3 RS on an Instagram post from Chris Harris.
Jerry Seinfeld is a lot more famous than the rest of us, but when it comes to Porsche, he is not that different than we are. His love of the Porsche brand is well documented. He has a staggering collection that includes some of the most rare and valuable Porsche vehicles ever made. If we had access to the same resources that he does, many of us would be building a similar collection. And while he owns many historic cars, it seems that his Porsche passion continues with the latest Porsche offerings. He recently gushed over the 911 GT3 RS. And who can blame him?
Top Gear host Chris Harris was recently testing the new 911 GT3 RS and posted about it on his Instagram page. He said of the car “Space-ship. On a track it’s sensational. On the road, you need to be in the mood. Thank you @porsche for having the minerals to produce something so outrageous.” To which Seinfeld replied “I’m totally addicted to it. Don’t want to drive anything else.”
911 GT3 RS
Not wanting to drive anything else is quite an endorsement from a man that can drive essentially anything else from the entire Porsche back catalog of vehicles. When Seinfeld speaks so highly of a Porsche model, we should all take notice. He has driven all of them. That being said, the statement is a bit of hyperbole. The GT3 RS is the greatest street legal track weapon car in the Porsche stable today. Perhaps ever. If you are at Laguna Seca or Watkins Glen, the GT3 RS is nirvana. If you are dodging potholes on I-95 around Philadelphia, then the RS might not be the best choice. It sets blistering lap times because Porsche went all-in to make it a track car. And there is a good reason why people don’t drive their track cars to pick up a gallon of milk.
No Half Measures
The 911 GT3 RS is most easily spotted in the wild thanks to the massive rear spoiler with a Formula One inspired drag reduction system. The front trunk is replaced by a large center radiator. This system helps with downforce and brake cooling but leaves you no space for that milk. Carbon fiber is used throughout to reduce weight. The suspension, wheels, brakes, everything is designed to help this car reduce lap times by milliseconds. And the star of the show is that 4.0L, naturally aspirated, 9,000 rpm, flat-six making 518 horsepower. When the moment is right, you want nothing else but the GT3 RS under you. But as great as it is, we think that there are some occasions that even Seinfeld would want to drive something else.
Getting One
If you want one of the greatest Porsche cars of all time it helps to be the creator and star of one of the greatest sitcoms of all time. Sure, the $241,300 starting price means that you need a healthy bank account. But the money is not enough to park a GT3 RS in your garage. The number of people in the world that want one and can afford one far outpaces the number of these that Porsche is building. So, getting an allocation is not easy. No dealership is going to give a Rennlist writer an allocation for a GT3 RS. Trust me, I tried. But for Seinfeld, dealers and Porsche themselves will bend over backward to get him whatever he wants. And that is OK because Seinfeld clearly appreciates just how special these cars are.
