Paul Walker’s Father Files Wrongful-Death Suit Against Porsche

First of all, let me say this: I feel horribly for Paul Walker’s family, and I can understand why they continue to look for blame in Walker’s death. But all the same, I just can’t see how Porsche can be held responsible here, despite the fact that a third wrongful-death suit is now being filed against the company, the latest by Walker’s father.

An official investigation concluded that unsafe speeds were to blame in the accident that killed Walker and his business partner and fellow enthusiast, Roger Rodas, back in 2013. Also, Porsche asserted in court that the 2005 Porsche Carrera GT that Walker and Rodas were driving “had been modified and improperly maintained,” according to AutoBlog.

Yet despite that evidence, Walker’s father is now bringing a wrongful-death suit against Porsche, like Walker’s daughter and Rodas’s wife. Walker’s father claims that the GT should have been equipped with lifesaving features like stability control, a breakaway fuel line, and reinforced doors.

Perhaps, but shouldn’t the two enthusiasts have known the car didn’t feature such equipment before they drove it at unsafe speeds?

With regards to Walker’s daughter’s suit, Porsche representative Calvin Kim summed up the company’s position for AutoBlog: “As we have said before, we are very sad whenever anyone is hurt in a Porsche vehicle, but we believe the authorities’ reports in this case clearly establish that this tragic crash resulted from reckless driving and excessive speed.”

Seems like assumed risk to me. Or Walker’s “own comparative fault,” as Porsche’s attorney claimed in court documents. What do you think?
