No Joke: Porsche 993 Ignites on Auto Show Floor

With so many marques and models represented at the New York International Auto Show, you really want to do all you can to make sure your car stands out from the crowd. But this burning 993 seems a bit excessive.

The fiery footage below comes to us via Vlad Shurigin, a photographer who happened to be at the DUB section of the NYAIS, which runs through this weekend. But while we can certainly see the the effect of this very hot Porsche, we still don’t know the cause.

“No idea what happened, heard the car being moved and out of nowhere a super loud bang and lawd Jesus it’s a fire,” said photographer Anthony Purcell, who was conducting a photo shoot at the time.

Kudos to all the Johnnies on the Spot with the fire extinguishers. Fortunately, no one was hurt. Perhaps not even the 993 itself, well at least not irreparably.

And though the hall was cordoned off for precautionary measures, Shurigin was able to snap the photo just above, of the not-air-cooled-enough Porsche after the fire. And while I’m no expert mechanic, or even a novice one really, I dare say the car doesn’t look nearly as bad as it could.
