Man Drives Porsche 12 Hours to Distillery, Tries to Break In, Gets Arrested
A couple of years after an incident at the same location, this Porsche owner returned to Kentucky and wound up staying – and receiving some new criminal charges.
Few days go by when we don’t come across at least one crazy story about a criminal that does something boneheaded, and oftentimes, downright humorous. But seldom do these criminal acts involve any sort of Porsche, which we like to think has something to do with the fact that we owners are a bit smarter than the average individual. Regardless, that certainly wasn’t the case recently when a man from Mesquite, Texas drove all the way to Loretto, Kentucky and tried to break into the Maker’s Mark distillery only to fail in a rather epic manner, according to The Lebanon Enterprise.
That particular drive isn’t exactly a short one – 807 miles, or around 11.5 hours, if one adheres to the speed limit and doesn’t hit traffic. Regardless, for reasons unknown, the Porsche owner made the trek to bourbon country, but not with the intentions of enjoying a distillery tour – rather, he tried to break into the facility, but the problem was, it wasn’t unoccupied or unmonitored. Rather, the security team called police immediately, and as one might imagine, took the perpetrator into custody.
The man wasn’t totally disorganized, either, as police found bolt cutters, a torch, a sledgehammer, a bag full of tools, and $9,000 in cash on his person – a suspicious array of goods, indeed. Amazingly, this wasn’t the man’s first run-in with this particular Maker’s Mark location, either – he was involved in an incident back in 2021 where he claimed he was poisoned. “He was transported by Marion County EMS to Spring View Hospital for medical treatment due to unstable vital signs at the scene,” said Sheriff Jimmy Clements said. “That was the extent of the Sheriff’s Office contact with him on that date.”
Clearly, this individual needs some help, and hopefully, he’ll get it now. Regardless, in the short term, he’s been charged with a litany of crimes including third-degree attempted burglary, third-degree attempted arson, possession of burglary tools, and third-degree criminal trespassing.
