Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport

The 911 GT3 R Rennsport is the most hardcore and unrestricted 911 in history, and its 9,400 RPM engine makes an unforgettable sound.

There’s certainly no shortage of groundbreaking moments and substantial envelope-pushing throughout Porsche’s history. From the likes of the 959 to the 918 Spyder, Porsche has always been on the cutting edge of technology. However, when it comes to pure hardcore track performance, the Porsche 911 GT3 R Rennsport takes things to a level that a commercially available Porsche vehicle has never reached before. With no restrictions of homologation, racing class limitations, or the need for it to be street legal, the GT3 R Rennsport is purely the result of a truly unrestricted engineering exercise.

Porsche unveiled this remarkable vehicle in September. However, a more recent video posted to the Porsche YouTube channel truly gives us a chance to appreciate the beating heart of this monstrous weapon. Rennsport tweaked the already ferocious GT3 R engine by upping the compression, changing the camshafts, and, most notably, creating a completely unrestricted and unsilence exhaust system. The result is a remarkable and unmistakable sound as the engine climbs its way to 9,400 RPM with a peak of 620 horsepower. In addition, the car weighs only 2,733 pounds, making it lighter than a 964 911.

With Only 77 Examples to Be Built, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport Certainly Does Not Come Cheap

According to the Porsche Motorsports website, the 911 GT3 R Rennsport costs a cool $1,046,000. That’s just the starting point, too. That doesn’t include taxes, options, or delivery. That is a monumental amount of money for a car you can’t even drive on the street. You can’t even compete with it in any racing classes because it’s 100% unrestricted. That, though, is where the price starts to make a lot of sense. This is the best of the best. What you’re paying for is something that represents the absolute pinnacle of what is possible within the traditional Porsche 911 layout. That is, a rear-engine, rear-wheel-drive, naturally-aspirated flat-six. ‘

Alongside its phenomenal styling and throwback-style rear wing, the 911 GT3 R also has a custom-made transmission specifically developed for it. In addition, exclusive BBS wheels and Michelin tires were also developed specifically for this chassis. So, while it is an extravagant amount of money, those who have the privilege of driving one of these will be in an exclusive club. That club is for folks who, having driven the car, will truly understand what Porsche and Rennsport engineers are capable of when nothing stands in their way.

For the rest of us, though, we’ll have to keep the below video on repeat so we can hear that 620-horsepower beast of an engine sing to us all day long. Porsche making a video specifically about the sound of this car truly shows that the company understands its enthusiasts. There’s even a cool bit where they take dust from the racetrack and play the sound of the car through it, allowing us to see the sound of this car, too.
