Keanu Reeves & Alex Winter ‘Excellent Adventure’ in the Taycan Turbo
On just a single charge the Hollywood actors flog the Taycan Turbo down the California coast towards the Porsche Experience Center in LA.
Keanu Reeves and Alex Winter have something in common. They can both be counted among the ranks of celebrity Porsche enthusiasts. The list of celebrity Porsche enthusiasts is long and distinguished, so having someone famous in a Porsche is nothing new. What is new is the Porsche Taycan. While it may be new, the Taycan is breaking world records all over the place. This time, there is no world record at stake. What is at stake is seeing just how much fun you can squeeze out of a single charge in the Porsche Taycan. To demonstrate what can be done Reeves and Winter embark on a California road trip. They each start off in a fully charged Taycan Turbo. They rip down the coast with a few fun detours along the way. The final destination is the Porsche Experience Center in Los Angeles.
Porsche captured this single charge road trip and shared it with the world on their YouTube channel. The video starts off with each actor recalling their first Porsche. For Reeves it was a 993 911, and Winter had a 911 Targa. As they rocket towards the PEC, they pull off the main road for their first detour. It turns out that they are not the only celebrities on this little adventure. Tanner Foust is waiting for them in Lizard Green GT3 RS. The first detour is called “launch mode” and you can probably guess what that means.
On the closed road Foust launches his GT3 RS off into the distance. Reeves stares in awe for a few moments before saying: “Well that sounded good.” As fast as the Taycan Turbo might be, it can’t match the GT3 RS at full chat. Winter is the first to launch the Taycan. Reeves is again taken aback by the performance. “Wow. He is there and then he is over there.” Says Reeves before launching his own Taycan. At the end of his run, he says that he doesn’t think he has ever been in a car that launched like that. To be fair to him, not many cars do launch like that.
Back on the open road the pair head for their next detour. This time they meet up with Porsche racing driver Patrick Long. Long is behind the wheel of the 918 Spyder hyper car. He will be leading the group up a 2-mile-long hill climb run. After blasting up the course Winter has 48 percent battery life left and Reeves has 43 percent. Considering their driving hijinks that isn’t too bad, but they have not even arrived at the PEC yet. By the time they arrive Reeves is down to 39 percent and is starting to get a bit worried.
Once at the PEC, they start off with some lead follow laps chasing down a GT3 RS. From there it is time to play on the skid pad and do some drifting. We have seen before that the Taycan is no slouch when it comes to drifting. After a bit of practice and some coaching, Winter and Reeves are sliding the Taycan around the pad pretty well. At the end of the day, both cars are going strong.
The Taycans took on a 100 plus mile road trip from Santa Barbara to the PEC in LA. That included several battery draining activities along the way. This was not a hypermiling road trip. This was a trip using a Porsche like a Porsche. And guess what? The Taycan performed just like a Porsche. “Can we do that again?” Said Reeves at the end of the trip. No problem, just please invite us next time.
