Jerry Seinfeld, Gary Shandling and a 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo

The world is definitely less funny without Gary Shandling in it. And so to is his recent episode of Comedians in Cars Getting Coffee.

If you watch Jerry Seinfeld’s fantastic web series, then you know the premise: Car Guy Jerry shows up at some other comedian’s house with some amazing ride, which they hop in to go get coffee. Strangely enough, Season 7 Episode 4, which debuted in January, is titled “It’s Great That Gary Shandling Is Still Alive,” and features Jerry picking up Gary in a 1979 Porsche 930 Turbo.

The irony of the episode’s title probably doesn’t escape Jerry, though I doubt he finds it funny now that Shandling passed away unexpectedly, at the age of 66.

The episode traces Gary and Jerry’s roots in both comedy and cars, from being 911 owners, to performing at The Comedy Store — one of their destinations along the way to getting coffee. It also features talk of Robin Williams’ death, and Shandling’s hopes for his own funeral, and his hyper parathyroid gland, with “the exact same symptoms an older Jewish man would have, which is, you know — lethargic, you get puffy, you get heavy, you kind of feel like you want a divorce, but, you know, you’re not married.”

So yeah, it’s a bit eerie. And sad. But it’s still hard not to laugh your way through two of the best comedians ever, who obviously love each other, getting coffee in a darn nice car. You can see the preview below, or head here for the full episode. Then let us know what you think.
