Seinfeld Selling 16 Porsches (and 2 VWs) at Amelia Island Auction

Boy, these Porsches… I mean pretzels… are making me thirsty.

After a special preview showing at their recent Scottsdale auction in Arizona — where Gooding & Company displayed a 1955 Porsche 550 Spyder, a 1974 911 Carrera 3.0 IROC RSR, and a 1958 356A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster belonging to Porsche collector Jerry Seinfeld — the auction house has now released the full list of cars that the noted actor, comedian, and coffee advocate has consigned with them for sale at their upcoming Amelia Island Auction.

“Mr. Seinfeld is recognized throughout the world as having acquired one of the finest Porsche collections ever assembled,” said David Gooding, president and founder of Gooding & Company, in a press release issued by the company. “He has become known as the definitive Porsche connoisseur based on his passion and devotion to the marque.”

It’s hard to argue with that statement, especially after checking out the full listing of cars Jerry’s sending to auction:

1955 Porsche 550 Spyder
1957 Porsche 356A Speedster
1958 Porsche 356A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster
1958 Porsche 597 Jagdwagen
1959 Porsche 718RSK
1963 Porsche 356B 2000 GS Carrera 2 Coupe
1966 Porsche 911
1973 Porsche 917/30 Can-Am Spyder
1974 Porsche 911 Carrera 3.0 IROC RSR
1989 Porsche 911 Speedster
1990 Porsche 962C
1994 Porsche 964 Turbo 3.6 S Flachbau
1998 Porsche 993 3.8 Cup RSR
2000 Porsche Carrera GT Prototype
2011 Porsche 997 Speedster
2012 Porsche 997 GT3 4.0 Cup “Brumos Commemorative Edition”
1960 Volkswagen Beetle
1964 Volkswagen Camper

“There was shrinkage” said George Constanza in a classic episode of Seinfeld’s eponymous television show. Yes, Seinfeld is technically shrinking his collection, but don’t worry about him. His passion for both the hobby and the marque remain very much intact, evidenced by his purchase of a very original 1958 Porsche 356A Speedster at Gooding & Company’s Pebble Beach Auction last year.

“Honestly, if I had unlimited time, space, and attention span I would never sell one of them” Seinfeld said in the press release. Amen. Look for the Seinfeld connection to add a certain intangible value to what is sure to be spirited bidding when these cars go under the auction block March 11th.
