Vintage gem represents one of the finest of its breed.

For many, the 356 C represents the best generation of Porsche’s very first production automobile. The reasons why are fairly straightforward. The 356 C had four-wheel disc brakes, and you could opt for Porsche’s most powerful pushrod engine to date: the 95 hp SC. And 1964 was a year ripe with major change as the all-new 911 prepared to usher in a new era for the automaker.

Those little interesting tidbits of history make this incredibly appealing 1964 356 C even more appealing. We spotted the Irish Green Porsche for sale over in the Hemmings classifieds, where it was recently up for grabs with an asking price of $74,000. Now, any collector worth his salt will immediately notice that the beautiful shade of green is not original, but it sure looks like it belongs there.

This particular 356 C also has a very low claimed original mileage of 52,000. Despite that, it received a complete restoration around five years ago. Since then, the drivetrain has accumulated only around 10,000 miles. The engine is original, but the owner swapped out the stock carb for a pair of Webers, which undoubtedly makes it sound even better.

Those minor changes might irritate purists, but nothing has been done here that can’t easily be undone. And both the stunning paint color and period correct carb conversion actually enhance an already great car. A car that lives on as one of Porsche’s first, and greatest achievements.
