Vintage Porsche expected to fetch between $101,000 and $112,000.

Porsche has come a long way from its humble beginnings with supercars like the 918 Spyder and high-end sports cars like the 911 GT3 RS. But before the automaker became one of the most iconic sports car automakers in the world, it started out with the modest 356.

We found this 1964 356 Coupe that’s being auctioned off by Hemmings. The seller is Coys: Spring Classics in the U.K., which expects the car to fetch between $101,000 and $112,000. The classic beauty is finished in Bali Blue with an interior that features a similar shade of blue for that full blue-on-blue look. The gold badge on the back and chrome touches really help the blue shine.

While the first 356 models came with a 1,100 cc air-cooled flat four from VW that made 46 horsepower, by the time 1964 came around the engine had been increased to 1.6-liter with power increased to 75 horsepower. The vehicle even comes with four-wheel disc brakes and beefier suspension components over previous iterations. The 356C was miles ahead of any other sports car of its time thanks to its driver-oriented feel, which needs to be experienced to be believed.

Production for the 911 began the same year this vehicle came out and one year later, in 1965, Porsche stopped making the 356. The 911 may be the quintessential Porsche, but the 356 is where it all started and this specific car, which had a recent restoration and an engine rebuild, is the one to try.
