Ex-Daytona 24 RS America Twin Turbo Race Car

Looking to go racing? This one is set up for NASA, HSR, PCA, POC, SCCA, or any other acronym you can think of.

Racing Junk is a great place to find your next race car, and it’s not just for circle track guys, either. This 1993 Porsche 911-based race car comes with some cool equipment, and some pretty cool pedigree, too.

This car started life as a 1993 RS America, the notoriously stripped-down model designed as a consolation prize. The rest of the world got the Carrera RS; Americans got the RS America.

RS Americas were bargain-priced when new, and, for quite a while, they remained that way. For many years, the 964 RS America was an affordable way to enter the Porsche family.

Lately, they’ve been appreciating in value. However, this car has so few of its original parts remaining, you won’t have to worry that you’re taking a collectible onto the race track.

This car was originally built to compete in the 1998 running of the 24 Hours of Daytona. It’s still an impressive road-course monster today. The ad states that it’s down to a fighting weight of just 2,180 pounds, and it packs somewhere between 450 and 500 horsepower.

The updated 993-style bodywork is made from fiberglass and carbon fiber, which helps to push the weight down considerably. Fiske wheels are found at each corner, with beefy Alcon brakes taking up residence behind them.

Inside, you’ll find a NASCAR-style roll cage, as well as STACK gauges and datalogging equipment. You’ll also find Tilton adjustable pedals. The ad states that the car features “the best of everything,” and that certainly looks to be the case.

This car is powered by a twin turbo 3.8 liter flat six. While few details are given, we do know that it makes big power and has seen little use since it was built. There should be plenty of life left in it. That fire-breathing flat-six is fed from a massive 100 liter fuel cell, although we’re unsure of its age.

The seller, located in Santa Barbara, California, is asking $79,500. That price includes three sets of wheels and what appears to be one seriously well-sorted race car.
