Drop-top 356 Is Ready to Cruise the Coastline
If you’re looking for some iconic Porsche pushrod power, look no further than this classic, final-year 356 SC Cabriolet.
1965 was the final year the Porsche 356 was available, and the SC was, at the time, the most powerful pushrod engine Porsche ever built. It’s modest 95 horsepower 1600cc engine may not sound like much now, but in 1965 this was the pinnacle of a sports car dreamer’s fantasies.
This particular 356 SC is available right now on Racing Junk for $325,000. That’s a whole lot of money, so what exactly do you get with that price point?
This year and trim level is the tip of the iceberg for a 356, and this one seems to be in excellent condition inside and out. According to the Porsche Club of America, the 1965 model year’s most significant change was the standard-issue conventional disc brake system from ATE.
This particular model still has the complete tool kit and luggage set, which is pretty remarkable. These cars are very frequently replicated, so this one coming with a Porsche Certificate of Authenticity sets the mind at ease. While it may seem obvious that you’re buying a replica, many people have learned the hard way that that isn’t always the case.
Additionally, according to the ad, it recently went through an entire nut and bolt restoration. The pictures sure back that claim up
According to Hagerty, only 598 356 SC Cabriolets were made in 1965, so this thing is quite rare indeed. Though Hagerty also states the average value is $149,000. However, with the limited production and condition of this one, there’s a good chance it will sell for a lot more. Whether or not they’ll get their asking price just depends on who’s ready to buy.
Additionally, according to the ad, it recently went through an entire nut and bolt restoration. The pictures sure back that claim up. Everything looks clean as a whistle. It is relatively high mileage, though. According to the ad, it has 98,210 miles on the odometer.
While the asking price does seem a bit high, this is indeed a scarce example. We certainly can’t predict the selling price. One thing we hope, though, is that whoever buys it keeps driving it. This higher mileage beauty deserves to soak up the California sun frequently!
