Jerry Seinfeld Suing Car Dealer Over Reportedly Phony 1958 Porsche
Comedian bought and flipped what he believed to be a Porsche classic. Turns out this rare Porsche was too good to be true.Â
Earlier this month, Jerry Seinfeld found himself in a decidedly very unfunny situation. The comedian was sued after the buyer of his 1958 Porsche 356 A 1500 GS/GT Carrera Speedster questioned its authenticity. Now, Seinfeld is going after the classic car dealer that sold him the questionable Porsche that started this airing of grievances.
Seinfeld first purchased the Porsche from European Collectibles in 2013 for $1.2 million. European Collectibles told Seinfeld, a seasoned Porsche collector, that the Speedster was all original and the only one produced in Auratium Green with a black interior. Three years later, Seinfeld decided to flip the car. He sold it at a Gooding and Company auction for a cool $1.54 million.
However, problems arose when the new owners, FICA FRIO Ltd, believed the authenticity to be questionable, so they sued Seinfeld. Seinfeld alleged didn’t know the Porsche was a fake, wants the new owners and European Collectibles to sort it out, yadda, yadda, yadda, so he’s suing the classic car dealers.
Seinfeld’s attorney Orin Snyder told TMZ “Jerry has no liability in this matter, but he wants to do the right thing, and is therefore bringing this action to hold European Collectibles accountable for its own certification of authenticity, and to allow the court to determine the just outcome.”
In his lawsuit, the Comedian in Cars Getting Coffee star is asking for the dealership to cover all damages should the Porsche be a fake.
It’s a shame that this beautiful ride is likely a bogus. As we all know, when it comes to a true Porsche, they’re real and they’re spectacular.
Serenity now!
