Custom 1995 Porsche 993 is a Speedster ‘Unicorn’

By -

Truly one of a kind, this 1995 Porsche 993 Speedster was built by dedicated Porsche enthusiasts.

The Porsche 993 Speedster may be one of the more rare P-cars. It was never actually offered to the public. And only two official models were ever built. The first was built for Ferdinand Alexander “Butzi” Porsche while the second was built for TV star and well-known lover of Porsche cars, Jerry Seinfeld.

Petrolicious recently profiled another Porsche 993. This variant, a custom 1995 Porsche 993 Speedster, is named the “Unicorn Conversion.” This work of art was constructed by a car enthusiast named Karen and her husband Jäger, whose surnames were not mentioned in the film.

Karen describes her path to creating the car in the film. There was apparently a period when Seinfeld considering selling his personal 993 Speedster, but then changed his mind. So Karen spoke with Seinfeld’s broker on how could one go about creating their own Porsche 933 Speedster. Seinfeld’s broker told her get the best donor car, the best parts, and find the best Porsche certified master technician you can find. And so she did just that.

The results of their labors definitely paid off.

Karen describes the customization aspects of the car in the video. Widebody fenders were welded to fit perfectly and the interior has carbon fiber sprinkled throughout. The pair actually found someone in Germany who previously did carbon fiber work for Porsche. The car features Speedline wheels with magnesium centers to keep the weight down as much as possible. Porsche never made a 993 badge, so a 998 badge was cut to make a 993 badge. Most importantly, Karen mentions the car has no stereo. “We don’t need one, wouldn’t listen to it anyway.”

So what does it feel like to drive this magnificent Porsche?

“It’s taking you somewhere else and it doesn’t really matter where that is at the moment, but it’s a break from everything else that’s going on in life,” said Karen.
