Car Spotters Chase Doug DeMuro’s Porsche Carrera GT Through SoCal

Doug DeMuro’s Porsche Carrera GT

The mega popular YouTuber can’t take his Porsche Carrera GT out for a spin without attracting dangerous kinds of attention.

Many car enthusiasts are quite familiar with Doug DeMuro, one of the most popular automotive YouTubers out there, a guy that’s accumulated millions of subscribers over the years. DeMuro has made a name for himself with his extensive, in-depth vehicle reviews, which focus on a model’s “quirks and features” more than any other. Of course, being a car guy himself, DeMuro recently celebrated a multi-million dollar deal over his auction web site Cars & Bids by buying his dream car – a Porsche Carrera GT – though as one might imagine, he can’t exactly cruise around Southern California without attracting quite a bit of attention.

Unfortunately for DeMuro and the traffic around him, that attention recently got a bit out of hand, as we can see in a series of videos from the Instagram/TikTok page sdcarspottings. The action picks up with both a BMW 3-Series and Tesla Model S “chasing” DeMuro in his Porsche Carrera GT through traffic, and it’s pretty clear that the YouTuber is trying to evade them by frequently changing lanes on the busy highway.

“This video is such a great example of what happens every single time I drive my sports cars – I get followed insanely closely by people (that BMW) who won’t leave me alone and want to race or ‘hang with’ a Carrera GT or Ford GT,” DeMuro wrote in the comments section of one of the videos. “I try to get away from them, but they refuse to back off. It’s so dangerous and annoying!!!! The recording stopped but eventually I had to motion to the BMW to get away from me. Please DON’T DO THIS when you see exotic cars on the road. Get a couple of photos, take a long look, but don’t follow nine inches from the bumper for every single lane change and turn!!”

As many of us drive sports cars ourselves, we’ve also experienced things like this, albeit perhaps not to this extreme. People tend to not respect our property and lean on or touch cars at various shows and meets, but these days, with car spotting becoming more and more popular, that attention has turned to chasing cars through traffic or even trying to get their owners to engage in some street racing.

Obviously, this is both annoying and dangerous, though it’s unclear what the motives of these chasers were to begin with. Perhaps they wanted to race DeMuro, get a closer look at his ride, or take pictures on the fly – after all, it isn’t every day we come across a Porsche Carrera GT. But ultimately, this kind of behavior can also end in a very bad way, so let’s just admire these glorious machines in a safe manner, shall we?
