993 Porsche Carrera RS is Sweet, Sweet Forbidden Fruit

By -

Doug DeMuro confirms our suspicions that yes, in fact, the 993 Porsche 911 Carrera RS is one seriously incredible machine.

Wanting the things that we cannot have is a natural human phenomenon. But often, these forbidden fruits don’t even live up to the immense expectations we have for them. Whether it be a sad, flat fast food burger that looks nothing like it did on the commercial or that boring old sedan fanboys lust over. For those of us that live in North America, the 993 Porsche Carrera RS is something we couldn’t have. But the real question is – does this lust-worthy 911 taste like sweet validation, or is it overripe from excessive hype?

Well, that’s precisely the question automotive reviewer extraordinaire Doug DeMuro set out to find the answer to in this video. Mostly because he was lucky enough to be granted access to this incredibly rare, one-of-about-1,000 example that’s been imported from Japan. This predecessor to the GT3 and GT3 RS followed the same more power/less weight formula Porsche has since perfected.

Since we’ll probably never get the chance to drive one, we were especially interested to learn what DeMuro thought about his test drive. And it sure sounds like he came away impressed. “The driving experience of this car is so, so, so sweet,” DeMuro says. “Everything about it is just exactly what you want a car like this to drive like. The 993 was everyone’s favorite 911 because it was the best drive. It was so enjoyable. Just easy to throw around, easy to drive. This car is that, taken to the next level.”

Alas, it does sound like the 993 Porsche Carrera RS lives up to the immense hype bestowed upon it. Which, unfortunately, just makes us want one even more. Sadly, this forbidden piece of delectable Porsche fruit will likely continue to taunt us from afar, indefinitely.
