991 GT3 RS Exhaust: Reviews and Opinions

Finding the right aftermarket parts is like searching for a needle in a haystack. That’s why we always head to the Rennlist forums for advice.

For enthusiasts, a burgeoning aftermarket can be both a good and a bad thing. Good, because we have almost limitless choices. Bad, because we have almost limitless choices. There are quite simply so many different companies producing so many different parts that it can be hard to figure out what’s right for your car. But that’s what places like the Rennlist forums are for.

If you’re, say, a 991 GT3 RS owner and you want an exhaust upgrade, you’re in luck. Because a member by the name of fastmd has tried out a couple of aftermarket options. And he posted his opinions on them in this handy thread. Even better? A handful of other members chimed in with their own experiences as well. Like a lot of us, fastmd wasn’t particularly thrilled with his OEM exhaust. So he decided to do something about it.

“Originally, I was not going to change the exhaust on my RS, but after driving for 30 sec I changed my mind. A car of this caliber needs a better sound.

I have the Sharkwerks bypass on my GT3, so I was going to order another one for my RS. I decided to try it on the RS and see if I liked it, sounded great.

However, I was intrigued by the bypass developed by CMS and the positive reviews it was getting on RL. I ordered one(the ceramic coated version) and had my dealer put it on. I finally went back to my dealer after my car has been sitting in the showroom for over a week, due to my work schedule.

Before I drove the car everyone at the dealer told me that it is the best sounding exhaust they have heard on a GT3/GT3 RS. I started it up and right away it sounded much better than both OEM and Sharkwerks. Once I started driving, the sound was incredible!!

Also, I did not experience any drone. It is by far the one of the best exhaust notes I have heard in some time. I did have the full side delete and center delete on my GT3, but the drone was intolerable.

If any of you are on the fence, I would try it. I was skeptical because I am a big Sharkwerks fan, but this CMS bypass is just much better to my ears.

Have no idea if it produces any power gains and I don’t care if it does/does not. I have much faster cars to drive if I feel my RS is slow.

A pic of the exhaust and right before I drove it out of the showroom. You can see my exhaust boxes in his cube.”

The first thing we thought was, where’s the video? Thankfully, it wasn’t very long before tonymission posted one of his own. And we must say, the sounds his GT3 RS produces with the CMS are absolutely glorious. “This is pretty much day one and I feel it sounds better now that it’s broken in a little bit,” he says of the vid. “Also not very high speeds.” Good enough for us, anyway.

They aren’t the only ones, either. “Agree. I’ve had many Sharkwerks over the years,” lumber said. “But I have to give credit to CMS. It does sound better. And it looks cool.” “I was at COTA this last weekend with my RS and by far the most asked question to me was, ‘What exhaust do you have on your car? It is amazing!” adds kyrocks.

The biggest gripe with the CMS exhaust? A lot of folks don’t care for the design of the tips. “My issue with CMS are its tips. I like the dual separated tips look so I’m staying with Sharkwerks,” Tosilog says. “Interested in this exhaust, just not a fan of the tips,” murph85 adds.

Looks, of course, are always subjective. But if you can get past the way the appearance, it seems like we can all agree on the fact that CMS’ GT3 RS exhaust sounds awesome.
