Hot 918 Spyder Headed to the 2022 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction with No Reserve

918 Spyder

Porsche 918 Spyder is a true hypercar. This example has less than 400 miles, hopefully the new owner will drive it.

Hard to believe this car is already six years old but the 918 Spyder is still the latest Porsche hypercar. Sure, they have made models in recent years that are even faster. However, none can match the exotic nature of the stellar 918 Spyder.

Only 918 examples were ever produced, and number 449 is about to hit the auction block. This car will be offered with no reserve at the 2022 Barrett-Jackson Scottsdale Auction. Hopefully you loaded up on Bitcoin a couple years ago because this car will likely sell for between $1 million and $2 million.

This car currently shows only 363 actual miles. Interesting tidbit. This same car sold at the 2018 Barrett-Jackson Las Vegas Auction. At that time, it had only 309 actual miles on it. So, in the last 3 plus years the car was driven only 54 miles. How do you have a car like this and only drive it a mile and a half every month?

The rich are just different than the rest of us. We are sure this car shared a garage with dozens of exotics. That is all well and good, but we really hope that the next owner of this car buys it, and actuals enjoys it on the road.

However, we are not holding our breath. It will likely be locked away in a private collection until the next auction sale. So sad.

918 Spyder

It is so sad because this car still looks fantastic finished in white over a Garnet Red leather interior with silver piping. It is also still an incredible performance machine. Remember the 918 Spyder is the car that made the term “hybrid” acceptable for performance enthusiasts. The 918 has a glorious 4.6-liter flat-plane crank V8 that makes 608 horsepower all by itself.

But the addition of two electric motors raises the total output to 887 horsepower and 944 (we still love the 944) pound-feet of torque. Hooked up to the amazing 7-speed PDK the car will hit 60 mph in about 2.5 seconds and run the quarter mile in about 10 flat. Those interested in more than straight line numbers should be happy with the 6:57 Nürburgring lap time. The first production car to do the deed in less than 7 minutes.

Oh, you are not interested in lap times and find quarter mile times vulgar? You care more fuel economy and protecting the climate? Well, the 918 Spyder earned an EPA-rated hybrid equivalent of 67 mpg. Not bad for a car that can top 211 mph.

It will also stop as well as it goes. 16.1-inch carbon-ceramic brake rotors are standard. You can see them clearly through the magnesium wheels that measure 20×9.5 inches at the front and 21×12.5 inches at the rear.

If you want the fastest Porsche hybrid out there your chance will arrive in the last week of January 2022. It may be a few years old now, but it is as special as ever. Our only ask is if you are the winning bidder, please drive this car.
