August is right around the corner, and that means one thing: quite possibly the greatest car weekend in the U.S. (and the world) is coming up. Monterey Car Week & the Concours d’Elegance in middle California starts August 15, and from the 18-20, Mecum is holding auctions for some of the most sought-after cars in the world. One of those includes the unicorn that is the 1996 Porsche 911 GT2 EVO. And the listed estimate is between $1,250,000 and $1,750,000.

The hefty price tag is partly because of how phenomenal the car is, and partly because of its exclusivity. Only 11 of these baddies were built. Plus, it’s had one owner this entire time, and that hero only drove it 4,350 miles (7,000 kilometers). According to Mecum, it’s the top spec ever produced from an air-cooled Porsche.

At its heart is a twin-turbocharged 3.6-liter flat-6. It has 600 horsepower and 490 lb-ft of torque linked to a six-speed manual transmission. But the real racing flex comes from the exterior. The street-legal homologation special has front and rear spoilers, massive scoops, winglets, and bolt-on wheel flares. Porsche also made the interesting move to use two-wheel-drive instead of all-wheel, which helped keep weight even lower. Still, with the aero on this car, it had no problem sticking to the pavement.

We might say it a lot, but this is truly a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity, if you’ve got a million or two to spare.
