1995 C4 vs 2014 Toyota Camry
Some background: I own a 1995 C4, a 2002 Mazda Protege5, and a 1998 Chevy 2WD S-10. When my C4 was in the shop (oil change, replacing warped brake rotors, fixing oil cooler leak), I rented a 2014 Toyota Camry. Here's what I noticed:
Toyota Camry:
Quick acceleration
Quiet
Roomy and comfortable
Technologically advanced (the bluetooth link to my phone seriously impressed me)
In comparison, my C4 was:
Comparately slow acceleration (manual transmission, not driving like a race car driver)
Noisy
Small, could be called cramped
Technologically obsolete (manual transmission, air-cooled engine, 20 years old)
For all practical purposes, the Camry can drive circles around my little red coupe (LRC). But oh my, the Camry is a soulless transportation pod, whereas my LRC is engaging, interactive, and delightful. It was such a pleasure to drive off, shift gears, hear the racket behind me, look out the unobstructed windshield (safety concerns aside, side curtain airbags have been the worst design requirement ever devised), not wonder about how I can make one computer talk to another computer.... I fell in love all over again.
It's going to be a long winter starting Nov 15!
I know most people on the board have newer cars in their fleets than what I have. I can say that each of my cars, even the Mazda, has more personality than that Camry.
Ramble over! Drive on.

Motortrend numbers Camry
The best straight-line performance we saw from the old four-cylinder Camry came from a 2012 LE, which weighed 3165 pounds and hit 60 mph from a stop in 7.8 seconds. It needed 15.9 seconds to finish the quarter mile at a speed of 89.3 mph. Stopping from 60 mph, meanwhile, took 120 feet. The best cornering performance we got from an old four-cylinder Camry came from a 2013 SE, which recorded 0.81 g average on the skidpad and completed our figure-eight test in 27.6 seconds at 0.61 g average

I'll freely admit that I'm not the greatest driver with a manual (although I am better than I used to be.) My point with the stoplight acceleration is that MotorTrend (and other car magazines) are doing drop-dead, fast-as-possible starts to get those numbers (5.7 vs 7.8). I (usually) don't drive like I'm trying to wring every last second between this stoplight and the one I can see three blocks away. Plus, was commenting on the butt-dyno feel, not actual specs.
Hopefully I'll make it up to a DE next year and lose some bad habits and learn some good ones.
Installing bluetooth: please save me from technology. I don't want to talk on the phone in this car, I just want to drive it.

I'd never buy a Camry. I though they were horrible before, and now I think they're worse. But I can understand the appeal for for someone looking for a reliable family transportation pod.

Camry vs. 993? Guy coming home from a day at the office vs. sailor coming home from a six-month cruise, or in other words, about 10,000 volts difference...
