Default EVO: 991 GT3 vs GT3RS vs Cup vs RSR

Interesting new story on EVO iPad App. 991 GT3 vs GT3RS vs Cup vs RSR.

Answers the question...which is faster...GT3 or GT3 RS?

Great article. I think both Gat3 & RS owners would have to be happy with that!

I rate Jethro as a driver and a scribe so will take Evos word in this. The GT3 is 1.38s slower on a 2.1 mile track driven by a pro works driver.

That's pretty much what most of us suspected I would imagine, given the improvements the RS has over the GT3. The GT3 does sound quite challenging to drive on the limit but I think that adds character along with the howl of the engine as it closes in on redline.

As discussed on an alternate thread the single biggest difference between the two on a typical Euro style track appears to be grip/traction. This is partly wheel track, partly tyre size/contact patch and we also assume the later N1 compound tyres on the RS play a part. Luckily GT3 owners currently have one more tyre option than RS owners at their disposal currently (Tropheo R).

As for me personally I think I'll have to say I'm happy with the GT3 right now and the $50000 I've saved over the RS will be invested wisely in rubber, track days and tuition. I figure I can improve on my local track by a second this year without change anything else so I'll just concentrate on that in the (unlikely) happenstance that I come across An RS in my run group lol.

Overall very interesting article. Will be great when the pair off the 991GT3RS against the new 9 A1 GT3R.

Thanks for sharing. The article clearly explains the difference between the GT3, and the RS. The difference in peak speed is much bigger than I expected.

BTW, if you guys haven't twigged, the "other" driver he is referring right up his butt in the RS is Chris Harris.

Thank you. Hopefully that one will appear in print too...and perhaps on TG in some form.

So, assuming the cars are set up properly, RS is about 1s faster per minute of lap time on this track. That roughly matches the apparent 5s delta at the ring. Still not clear how much of the difference is due to N0 vs N1 tire compounds, but we'll know better when the N1 becomes available in GT3 sizes.

In any case, interesting to note that the seemingly small difference in measured lap time translates to the RS gapping the GT3 significantly as the laps accumulate. Figuring roughly 90 mph average lap speed, on this track the 1.4s lap time difference translates to a gap of 185' per lap - which is about 15 car lengths!
