You will also want to use a 1/4 ratchet, 1/4 socket cap, and a ratcheting closed end wrench that matches the socket cap.

After your own trial runs up into the "tunnel" of obstacles, loosen the lower bolt about 1/2 turn with this tool setup.

The top bold does not have enough clearance from the HPFP for the lower bolt tool to clear. So reconfigure the tool and also turn the bolt about 1/2 turn. Now that you are satisfied that both bolts are loose, remove them by hand. I found that the socket caps was nice to have to grab.

Have the new part at hand and have its orientation in you mind. When you draw the old one out, a very small amount of oil will drain down the back of the head and drip onto the exhaust. There is no rush, but you can minimize the mess by with the old one out, just slide the new one in.

Place a small oil catch pan underneath. I need a short box to stand on so that the lift locks could remain engaged.

There is the green seal that needs to be there. It came with the part. Note that both the latest part and old on have oil screens.

There the VVTS is. Dead underneath the HPFP. I disconnected the electrical connection for clarity.

1/4" E8 torx star bit for the two VVTS mounting bolts.

Recommend that you have to new part at the ready with the correct orientation in mind. An ounce or two of oil will drain out but you can minimize the mess by sliding the new one in after removing the old one

In addition to the E8, you will need a 1/4" ratchet, 1/4" socket cap and a ratcheting wrench for the 1/4" socket cap. There is enough room in the small space for wrist torque but not arm torque. The screws and not overly tight.

Using this configuration, release the upper bolt about 1/2 turn. Now that both are released, you can unscrew them with the tools and by hand using the E8 and the socket cap for grip There is not a lot of clearance between the head of this bolt and the HPFP, which I DID NOT remove. You will have more than adequate clearance with this tool

Note the green o-ring proper placement. I ordered my VVTS from my local Porsche dealer and it came with the o-ring. The new VVTS still has an oil screen at the tip.
