This is the other end of the solenoid with the electrical connector and coil removed. This is what the plunger strikes when the coil is given 12V and opens the circular valve inlet at the other end. It can only open 2.17mm due to its design.

Plunger. Very interesting witness marks. Could not feel any roughness with a finger nail. Very smooth despite the appearance. The plunger can only move 2.17mm but they are up and down the plunger.

Coil. No witness marks. If the coil is energized most of the time, then ferrous fines might be collecting against the plunger and some how the witness marks get etched into the surface. Just taking a WAG.

Placed the plunger in the coil. Normally there is oil in there. Even without oil the plunger moved in and out freely.

Gave the coil 12V and on several occasions the plunger jumped out. So at room temperature the solenoid functions
