Default Used Fikse wheels - what to look for?

Hey there. A friend wants to sell his Fikse FM10s.

My question is, should I be weary of the integrity of the wheel? I remember reading somewhere that "older" Fikses metallurgy is questionable.

Is this true? TIA...

There is no question about the high quality of Fikse wheels old or new. However, this doesn't mean that the are impervious to bending or cracking. Lightweight materials are prone to such things. I'd just inspect them carefully before buying them.

Would eyeballing be sufficient?

Fiske stands behind their product. I bought a used set of FM5's,they were a year old and had been on a race 996. They developed some small cracks in the center spokes. Fiske replaced the centers of all 4 wheels no charge.

Should be. Also, run your fingers around the rim edges to feel any bends which may be too small to see.

Question

Another related question, I located a set of used FM-10s that have been painted black (centers only). My car is black and I would like to have them back to silver, ie. race satin/polished/etc. I spoke to someone at Fikse and he recommended replacing the centers at a cost of $400 each. Does anyone have any experience with removing paint from wheels such as these? Per my conversation with the rep, I wouldn't want to compromise the quality of the finish. He believes that stripping the paint would result in a rough finish that would require substantial polishing to get the finish back the way it should be. This would probably be cost prohibitive and may justify replacing the centers.

Just wanted to see what thoughts others may have. Thanks in advance.

Regards,
Sam

If anyone has another friend that is looking to sell a set of 17 Fikse's in a 8 & 9inch wheel with the offsets for an 88 Carrera with S4 calipers in front and 930 calipers in rear, I am very interested!!!
Thanks...
Scott

Wouldn't hurt if you spin them to just visually make sure the rims halves are round. They don't bend especially "easy" …. But they're not too hard to bend …..if you know what I mean
