996 Turbo Custom Wheel Offsets
Hi,
I have a set of wheels that were formerly on my 996 Turbo and have been in my storage unit for a couple of years now. I would like to sell them, however I have no way (short of going to a wheel store) to determine the actual offset of the rims.
Is there a simple formula and measurement that I can apply to determine my wheel offsets so I can post them with correct information for a prospective buyer?
Thanks in advance for all of the help!
Sincerely,
Damien Lewis

Best way is to measure the total width of the wheel. from very outer edge on the front to outer edge of the rear. Examble is 10" probably measures 11" then get the mid point if it measures 11" then mid point is 5 1/2" then put a flat edge across the backside outer edge of rim and measure down to mounting pad on the inside wheel center - lets say this measurement is 8 1/4" subtract the 1/2 way point 5 1/2" and you get 2 3/4" each 1" is approx 25mm so = 50 + 18 = ET 68 there is always a little give and take in these measurements, but this should get you started. jim

As Jim D says
measure overall width as labeled above, usually a 10" wheel will measure 11" but not always, BBS and Fuchs are notorious exceptions
easy way to measure is to place a stiff flat board across each face and measure the distance between them in mm
measure the back space, again as shown in the above diagram
easy way to measure is to place a stiff flat board across the back of the wheel then measure to the mounting face in mm, be careful as 1 mm one way or the other counts
ET = backspace - .5 * overall width
stock 996t wheels were 8(measure as 9" = 228.6mm ) ET50 and 11(measure as 12" = 304.8mm) ET45

To put it into easy words....
-Measure total width of wheels from lip to lip. (note measurement "A")
-Place a straight edge across back of wheel and measure down to hub pad. (note measurement "B")
-Divide "A" measurement by 2 and call it "C".
-Subtract "C" from "B" (B-C=offset)
