Post Tire mileage survey (Actually: Why am I getting such low mileage...)

It would be interesting to get some tire mileage information from us Porsche drivers.

My suggestion: (and my answers)

Porsche model: 993RS
HP: about 310
Suspension settings (stock, lowered, lowered/aggressive): aggressive
Tire brand: Bridgestone S-02
Tire size (rears): 285/30/18
Mileage on rears: 3000 max
Town driving %: 20
Country driving %: 50
Highway driving %: 30
Roads mostly straight or curvy? 50% straight, 50% curvy
Style of driving (relaxed, medium, sporty): in town relaxed, else sporty
Ever accelerate up to redline (from standstill, on highways): on highways always, country roads often, from standstill seldom

993RS,

This kind of survey for most makes/types of tyres is available on <a href="http://www.tirerack.com" target="_blank">www.tirerack.com</a> - i think it would be almost useless to do this as individuals on this board.....sorry for being negative but I don't see how this could work...

Christer,
Thanks, but I am familiar with Tirerack and the survey. It does not provide the information I am interested in.

You're too kind, it wouldn't be almost useless given the tiny sampling size, the number of uncontrolled variables, the subjective criteria, etc.

At least these threads were restricted to one P car model (993):

<a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=002941" target="_blank">Rear tire wear ,5000 miles and done normal???? </a>

<a href="http://forums.rennlist.com/forums/ultimatebb.php?ubb=get_topic&f=3&t=002360" target="_blank">mileage on Bridgestone S02's...(285/30/18) </a>

Dan,
I do not agree. I just asked a simple question, and tried to structure the response. I was never satisfied with the threads you mentioned. But if nobody wants to contribute, that is OK with me too.

993RS,
Here's my input:

1987 911 Carrera
HP: 230
Suspension: lowered, monoballs, Koni sport dampers, 23mm anti-roll bars(adjustable)
Tire size: f/235-45ZR 17 r/255-40ZR 17 Yoko A032
Mileage=Rear 3000 with 50% track usage approx.

Other: I have not run these to the cords but they don't like alot of heat cycles.

Cheers, James

Christer,
I am interested in the questions I asked (am I missing something? Is this really so weird?)
James,
Thanks for you input.

As your questions relate to rather subjective observations, here are my answers:

964 C2 1990
HP: about 250
Stock suspension
Kumho Ecsta 712's
255/40/17
2500 miles so far - no sign of any wear
Can't help you with the driving in Town/Country/Highway as I don't know whether we are looking at time or distance - i.e. 1 hour of highway is equal to 3 weeks of Town.

All our roads in UK are curvy - there are no straight roads for more than a mile or so anywhere.

Style of driving is a mixture of all three and doesn't correspond necessarily to town/country or highway.

I do redline from in gear, standstill and on highways but not that often - usually at least once per drive after the oil has warmed through.

Now let's do the same for brake pads!

LOL!

No, my only off-track excursion was driving into town to get lunch.

Good guess though...

Thumbs up

"993RS", I understand your perspective completely.
I was also looking for objective information on tire. Tire rack comments are better than nothing. However I think this site could do better. I pitched the idea of a data base from a survey of the Rennlist population. See my post in Tire Forum..."what about tires". A database of this sort would be a great benifit to Rennlist members that adds real value. Tires can not be underestimated in the behavior of a Porsche. If you do not need timely information on tires now, you will someday...
